Trolleys, Interurbans, Electrics
Fantastic traction that served the nation's urban centers, suburbs, and intercity travel.
The North Shore Brought to Life
The North Shore Brought to Life
You'll feel a real tug at the heart strings as this film captures interurban America exactly as it used to be. Another masterpiece filmed by Frank Pfuhler and "brought to life" with authentic sound by Russ Jackson.
The journey begins on the Chicago Loop and takes you the entire way to Milwaukee on the world's best known interurban. Streamlined articulated "Electroliners," "Silverliners," freights and plenty of standard, heavyweight "Greenliners" are all seen here. Even includes the Mundelein Branch. Every significant point on the line is covered both from the motorman's seat and at track side: all the principal cities and towns plus mile after mile of 90 MPH from the cab. The three distinctive whistles are heard.
Includes footage of the Milwaukee trolleys, and the famous "Electroliners" are shown after the demise of the North Shore when they ran as "Libertyliners" on the Red Arrow Line between Norristown and Philadelphia.
